27 November 2017 – Outgoing Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales formally bid farewell to Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Halimah Yacob on 21 and 21 November 2017, respectively, at the Istana.

During both calls, Ambassador Morales conveyed his appreciation for the support that the Singaporean government has extended to the Embassy during the more than three years of his tour of duty in the country. He also expressed the hope that the same support will be accorded to his successor, Ambassador-designate Joseph Del Mar Yap.

He also thanked Singapore for hosting the estimated 180,000 Filipinos in the country who actively contribute to its national development, while congratulating the country in its upcoming chairmanship of the ASEAN next year.

Both the Prime Minister and the President acknowledged the importance and productive role that Filipinos play in Singaporean society. They also congratulated the Philippines for its successful chairmanship of ASEAN this year as Singapore hopes to build upon the milestones achieved by the group this year.

After President Yacob inquired on the status of Marawi’s rehabilitation in the aftermath of the siege by Maute/ISIS group, Ambassador Morales expressed interest in learning from Singapore’s Islamic education (madrasah) system. He added that this is something that the Philippines could explore under Ambassador-designate Yap and will recommend it to the Department accordingly.
